Built for the reality of travel.
Expedition Centre designs and builds expedition-ready vehicles for people who want to travel well, travel further, and remove uncertainty from their setup. We’re known for the Mulgo Pop Top Conversion. A low-profile, inside-close system refined through years of real-world use across Australia and beyond.
Our reason
Why we exist
Travel exposes compromises. Corrugations, salt, fatigue. A long way from help, quiet reliability is the difference between a great trip and a bad one.
Most touring products are sold on the look of adventure. We build for the reality of it.
Vehicles that feel right in the driveway, and still feel right a thousand kilometres from help. That’s the Mulgo standard, and it shows up in every build we touch.

Where Mulgo began
Mulgo wasn’t born in a marketing meeting. It began with a need. Daniel Fluckiger built the first Mulgo Pop Top for his own family — for major international overland travel. A vehicle that could be a home, across continents, without compromise.
That first build became a solution. The solution became a standard. Refined through years of real travel — Europe, Australia, and beyond — real customers, and a steady obsession with doing things properly. The result is an expedition vehicle build that doesn’t just add comfort. It changes how you live with your vehicle on the road.

The Mulgo differences that matter in the field

Low-profile integration
Preserve the iconic lines of the Troopy, Defender, and Grenadier. Capability without the bulk.

Inside-close by design
Close fully from the interior for stealth, safety, and weather protection. Comfort without stepping outside.

Field-proven heritage
Refined through years of real use. Not just weekend demos.

Intentional serviceability
Built so critical components can be maintained and repaired without drama. Especially when you’re far from home.

Structural mindset, not bolt-on thinking
A conversion should feel like part of the vehicle, not an accessory that compromises it.
Built in Sydney. Designed for everywhere.
Our headquarters in Sydney is home to our workshop, manufacturing, and primary fitment centre. This is where the details are controlled. Materials are chosen for longevity. Tolerances matter. And every build is approached as something that should still feel solid years from now.
For travellers outside Sydney, we also support key fitment locations through trusted partner workshops across Australia and internationally. The standard stays the same.

Proof isn’t a claim. It’s a record.
Some vehicles leave the workshop and begin their journey. Others return years later, still operating with the same precision they had on day one. That’s what we mean by field-proven.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does Expedition Centre do?
Expedition Centre designs and builds expedition-ready vehicles, specialising in Mulgo Pop Top roof conversions, fit outs, and integrated touring systems. Everything we do is built for real travel, not trends.
Where is Expedition Centre located?
We are headquartered in Sydney, Australia, where our workshop, manufacturing, showroom, and primary fitment centre operate. We also support customers through key fitment locations via trusted partner workshops across Australia and internationally.
Are Mulgo Pop Tops built in Australia?
Yes. Mulgo Pop Tops are engineered and built in Australia with a focus on durability, serviceability, and suitability for harsh touring conditions.
Do you only build for Troopys?
No. The Troopy is a flagship platform, but Mulgo Pop Tops also support the HiLux, Ranger, Defender 110, Ineos Grenadier, and additional vehicles and platforms over time.
What is the best first step if I’m early in planning?
Start by exploring the Mulgo Pop Top options and real customer builds, then book a consult. We’ll help you map your vehicle, travel style, and timeline into a clear plan.
Who actually builds my vehicle?
Our in-house workshop team. Fabrication, electrical, cabinetry, and final fitment all happen under one roof with the same technicians across the full build — not a subcontracted assembly line. You meet the people handling your vehicle at consultation and see them again at handover.
How long does a typical build take?
A Mulgo Pop Top conversion runs six to ten weeks of workshop time from vehicle drop-off, depending on scope and fitment load. Full touring fit-outs with drawer systems, electrical, and integrated storage typically push that to ten to sixteen weeks. We lock the delivery window at consultation — no rolling dates.
What happens after I pick up the vehicle?
Every build ships with a documented handover walkthrough, a full service record, and long-term support from the same workshop that built it. Trips generate learnings — come back for a service, a retrofit, or a field debrief and the team already knows your vehicle.
